Water Operator / Supervisor
Go Back
Letter to Employers:
Dear Sir / Madam, Currently I am employed at Contra Costa
Water District. I have been there for a year and a half. Previously to that I
was an operator for the
City of Vallejo, which lasted nine months. It was not what I expected. Morale
was very low and the leadership is poor. These are things that are not apparent
in an interview. I had moved my family here from Southern California and had
bought a home in Fairfield and I was committed to making it work. I am grateful
for CCWD for giving me the opportunity to make the move a positive experience.
At the same time, I am looking into the possibility of furthing my career goals.
I was a Treatment Operator III, in Vallejo, and now an Operator IV at CCWD and
perform all the functions of a journey level and lead operator. While at CCWD
I have made improvements in the formation of chloramines, which helps inhibit
nitrification. Recently, I have applied for the D-5 exam and am scheduled to
test in April. Before the move to Northern Cal., I was at the City of Glendale,
in the position of Operator, were I was heavily involved in the Nitrification
Control Program. There I helped form and implement a program that is state of
the art as far as nitrification is concerned. It involved sampling, creating
of action plans, the establishment of action levels, an activity we called trimming,
chlorinating (tieing –up and breaking to free), and flushing. With some
innovative thinking and good teachers I saved several hundred thousand dollars
a year in chlorine costs and made major improvements in the over all water quality
in the system. Currently I hold D-4 and T-4 licenses along with AWWA certifications
as Water Quality Analyst, Cross Connection Specialist and Backflow Tester. I
got my start in the water field working in the Water Quality Department at Glendale,
before I was an operator, and at McKesson Water Company ( Sparkletts / Alhambra
) were I was a Laboratory Technician. I’ve completed the Water Treatment
Specialist program at Mt. San Antonio College, my internship at Monte Vista Water
Company and completed my A.S. degree in Water Technology at Citrus College. I
maintained a 3.5 G.P.A. throughout the entire program. While at Citrus College
I managed to make the Deans Honor Role with a 4.0 G.P.A. one semester. I also
have an A.A. degree in Natural Science; I like to think I have a well-rounded
education. My goal is career advancement in a lead role in Treatment, Distribution,
or Water Quality. With my education, training, and experience I know I can be
of value to a company that is in need of a supervisor in any of these areas.
I am anxious to make an improvement in my employment. Providing for my family
is of utmost importance. Enclosed is my resume for your review. Sincerely, Thomas
S. Campbell
