EDUCATION:
Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY
M.S in Chemical Engineering, Dec 2004

Project: Biological Aerated Filters (BAF) For Carbonaceous and Nutrient Removal
Fall 2004
* Conducted a comparative literature study of the different BAF models currently
used for wastewater treatment (I.e. Bio-for /Bio-styr /Biocarbone process)
their characteristics and history.
* Designed a BAF reactor to incorporate carbonaceous removal, nitrification,
denitrification by biological means, suspended solids by the filtering mechanism
of the media and phosphorus removal by chemical precipitation.
RELATED COURSE WORK:
* Water Pollution Engineering - reactor design, biological treatment, nutrient
removal
* Biological Wastewater Treatment - conventional activated sludge, biomolecular
methods, modeling
* Biochemical Engineering- bioreactor design, enzyme, microbial growth kinetics,
microbiology
* Environmental Chemistry and Analysis - organic chemistry, thermodynamics,
kinetics, acid-base reactions.
* Applied Environmental Microbiology - principles, ecology, microbial processes,
genetics, microbes and water
* Green Engineering - mass exchange network, heat exchange network, toxicity
analysis, design of environmental friendly chemical processes
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), Hyderabad, India.
Jan 2002- July 2002
Research Assistant
* Treatment of Heavy Water Effluent by Pervaporation: Butanol is a compound,
which cannot be removed by conventional methods such as aerobic and anaerobic
digestion. My role in this project was to study and evaluate the effect of
process variables such as feed concentration and permeate vacuum to optimize
experimental conditions.
* Oxygen Barrier Properties of Chitosan Polymeric Film: Chitosan was tested
since it is a biodegradable biopolymer when compared to the other currently
used synthetic polymers. Chitosan polymeric film was tested for its ability
to withstand oxygen penetration by using gas separation. This study was done
to check chitosan's feasibility as a good packaging material.
Vasanth Chemical Industries, Hyderabad, India May1998-july 1998
Plant Trainee
* Payroll: Created a program in C language, which takes employee's personal
and salary information as input and stores it in the database. It has provision
for modifying the data and also calculates variables like Over Time, Provident
Fund, Employees State Insurance corporation statements for employees in the
company.
PAPER PRESENTATION:
"Oxygen Barrier Properties of Chitosan Polymeric Film"- Presented
in BITS, Pilani for APOGEE (A Professional Oriented Gathering over Educational
Experience) during the 20th All India Academic Week.
ACADEMIC PROJECTS:
Production of the protein human insulin in bacterial culture:
* Studied insulin production methods and designed a fed-batch reactor for the
production of human insulin using Escherichia coli bacteria.
Acidobacterium in the Adirondack Mountains:
* Studied the genetics, function, metabolism, and role of acidophilic microorganisms
and acidobacterium in particular.
* Incorporated laboratory results of the samples collected from Adirondack
Mountains.
Optimal Design of Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger:
* Optimizing the design.
* Cost and Profit analysis of the equipment.
Probability and Statistics:
* Studied the various probability distributions, Sampling, Regression, Correlation
and concept of fitting a line to a set of data.
* Formulated a program in C, which gave the value of the various probability
functions.
Bits Virtual University (Web design):
* Created an intranet site using HTML and JavaScript for BITS virtual university
website.
A Computerized approach to Simulating Banking System's Effectiveness:
* Analyzed various simulation methods for measuring the effectiveness of the
banking system.
FIELD TRIPS:
* Adirondack Ecological Center, Newcomb, NY: Soil samples collected from Arbutus
Lake and water samples at two different sites from Military Lake were analyzed
and studied to check the presence of acidic microbes in the terrestrial and
aquatic environment.
* Mineoa Waste Water Treatment Plant, Mineoa, NY: Obtained information of
the process of sequencing batch reactor, trickling filters and construction
wetlands.
* Syracuse Metropolitan Wastewater Treatment Plant, Syracuse, NY: Obtained
information of the process of activated sludge, biological aerated filters (Biostyr),
and active flows.
