Job Responsibilities: The Imperial Irrigation District is looking for someone to provide strategic
leadership and management to the nation's largest irrigation district, which serves one of the
fastest-growing regions in the West, encompassing the Imperial Valley and parts of Riverside County in
Southern California. The district is governed by a five-member board of directors, elected within geographic
divisions by district voters. The board appoints a general manager to oversee district operations. The
district provides overall services with 1,300 employees and a $544 million current year operating
budget. The district operates 14 offices throughout Imperial County and in portions of Riverside and
San Diego counties. Its headquarters are located in the city of Imperial.
Reporting to an elected board of directors, the general manager is responsible for planning and
implementing overall goals, objectives and policies for the district; managing department managers and
executive staff and promoting district activities and affairs with government and private entities, community
organizations and the general public.
Minimum Requirements: The ideal candidate will be a seasoned manager and highly resourceful
leader with strong knowledge of policy, regulatory and compliance issues in the water
resources and/or energy industries. The salary for the new general manager starts at $225,000 and is
negotiable based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. A comprehensive benefit
package, including a 401(a) retirement plan, is also provided.
