Job Responsibilities: The Water Systems Operations Group, Water Quality Section currently has one (1) opening for an Assistant Engineer within the Process Development Team of the Water Purification Unit.
This is an intermediate professional engineering position, involving work in the preparation and checking of
designs, plans, details, specifications, estimates, and reports in connection with a wide variety of
engineering projects. The work of this position is moderately difficult and a substantial degree of expertise
in the design, operation, maintenance, testing, and evaluation of current and advanced
water treatment processes and technologies.
The primary responsibility of this position will be to work with engineers, scientists, and technicians within the Water Quality Section and
with Metropolitan personnel in other Sections in order to assist/conduct/perform bench-, pilot-, demonstration-, and full-scale testing
and research as directed by the Team Manager. These projects are designed to support both the Water Quality Section Strategic Plan and
the Water Operations Business Plan. Duties include, but are not limited to: assist, conduct, perform analyses, testing, research,
computations, checks, and field work to evaluate current and proposed treatment processes for water, spent backwash water, solids
and other treatment residuals resulting from existing and proposed unit processes; prepare, maintain, and produce
analytical, technical, statistical engineering reports based on process data collected
in bench-, pilot-, demonstration-, and full-scale studies; provide critical review and analysis of various
correspondence, analyses, reports and other materials prepared by others for verification, accuracy, and
completeness; review or prepare abstracts or extracts for relevant content; and perform other related work
as assigned. The successful candidate should be able to perform these duties with little direct supervision.
The functions of this classification include, but are not limited to:
Participates in field investigations, studies and preparation of preliminary and
final plans, specifications, cost estimates and reports pertaining to a variety of engineering projects.
Performs difficult calculations. Interprets data and evolves methods for presentation.
Performs difficult field investigations and materials inspections.
Prepares or assists in preparing written reports on above activities.
Performs other related work as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an appropriate field of engineering; OR
Successful completion of the California Engineer-In-Training examination, AND two (2) years' engineering experience at the level of Junior Engineer.
