Job Responsibilities: The Water Systems Operations Group, Water Quality Section currently has one (1) opening for an Assistant Engineer within the Engineering Compliance Team of the Water Purification Unit.
This is an intermediate professional engineering position, involving work in the preparation and
checking of designs, plans, details, specifications, estimates, and reports in connection with a wide
variety of engineering projects. The work of this position is moderately difficult and a substantial degree
of engineering judgment is expected.
The primary responsibility of this position will perform engineering judgment to assist Engineering and Treatment Plants and Distribution
Sections to ensure 100 percent compliance with all primary drinking water standards through design and operations of
Metropolitan's facilities. Duties include, but are not limited to: develop process design criteria and document these
criteria to be used for treatment plant upgrades and plant expansions; review engineering design drawings and specifications
to ensure compliance with existing or future water quality regulations; serve on the Treatment Plant and Distribution Quality
Assurance Teams to ensure compliance with primary drinking water standards; develop test plans and conduct
full-scale plant evaluation and process optimization studies; serve on treatment and distribution project teams
to assist the development, implementation, and initial operation of the new facilities; perform difficult
water chemistry calculations, provide support to the treatment plant in emergencies, analyze and implement new
drinking water regulations; and support source water protection efforts to import raw water quality.
The functions of this classification include, but are not limited to:
Participates in field investigations, studies and preparation of preliminary and final
plans, specifications, cost estimates and reports pertaining to a variety of engineering projects.
Performs difficult calculations. Interprets data and evolves methods for presentation.
Performs difficult field investigations and materials inspections.
Prepares or assists in preparing written reports on above activities.
Performs other related work as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an appropriate field of engineering; OR
Successful completion of the California Engineer-In-Training examination, AND two (2) years' engineering experience at the level of Junior Engineer.
