Job Responsibilities: The Department of Health, Division of Environmental Health - Office of Drinking Water are seeking two qualified individuals to fill the position of Environmental Specialist 4. The positions are located in Tumwater, Washington. (Recruitment # DOH720).

These positions oversee the process of rule development, policy development and program planning for the Office of Drinking Water, coordinating with other agencies as applicable. These positions evaluate, develop, perform, and direct complex or sensitive activities which are critical regionally, statewide, or nationally. The duties include but are not limited to:

  • Serves as lead on rule development for issues relating to water systems statewide.
  • Leads Capacity Development for the Office of Drinking Water.
  • Represents the Department of Health in conducting outreach activities with major stakeholder groups and water utilities concerning water system rule and policy development.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations on proposed legislation affecting water systems or the department.
  • Participates in drinking water strategic planning and business planning.
  • Requirements:

    Required Qualifications

    A Bachelor's degree involving major study in natural, physical or environmental science, environmental health, environmental law, land use planning, or other allied field.

    At least three years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas: water system policy development and analysis, coordination or oversight of water issues or regulations, environmental quality protection or compliance, land use planning, or has been in a position equivalent to Environmental Specialist 3 for at least two years.

    Desired Qualifications

    A Master's degree involving major study in natural, physical or environmental science, environmental health, environmental law, land use planning, or other allied field.

    At least four years of professional experience in the field of environmental health or public health with a state or local health jurisdiction.

    Experience working in a drinking water progam at the local, state, or federal level.
