Job Responsibilities: Positions allocated to this classification are responsible for assisting the Plant Operators in the daily operation of the
Mills Water Treatment Plant treatment processes and all associated facilities, structures, and
equipment. The Mills Plant has a total capacity of 220 MGD and is a conventional treatment plant using multi-media media
filtration and disinfection by ozone, in addition to chlorine and chloramines, and is monitored through a Supervisory Control
and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. Duties also include using computer programs for timekeeping and project tracking.
The functions of this classification include, but are not limited to:
Monitors backwash process of filters and removes and places into service filter beds in accordance with water flow changes. Monitors filter control panel gauges and makes minor flow adjustments, as directed.
Unloads, stores, transfers, and mixes chemicals; and under close supervision, makes chemical feed adjustments as directed.
Operates wash water treatment system by operating auxiliary equipment such as return pumps, flash mixers, flocculators, and chemical feed pumps.
Under close supervision, collects water samples for laboratory control tests and may perform simple tests as directed.
Maintains and records daily operational log as required.
Positions assigned to a District Water Filtration Plant, or Chemical Unloading Facility, may be called upon to assess and respond to chemical releases and spills.
Positions assigned to a District Filtration Plant, or Chemical Unloading Facility, shall observe operational and safety regulations pertaining to Metropolitan's Chemical Responder Program.
Performs other related work as required.
Minimum Requirements:
Education and Experience
One year experience as an Operator Trainee OR one year experience in the operation or maintenance
of pumping, water distribution or water filtration plants. Will be required to take a color-blindness determination exam.
Licenses/Certification Required
A Grade II Water Treatment (T2) Operator Certificate, as issued by the State of California, is required for employees assigned to water distribution or filtration facilities.
" A valid California Class III ( C) driver's license is required.
