Job Responsibilities: The City of Petaluma (pop. 56,000), centrally located 32 miles north of San Francisco in the picturesque wine country
of Sonoma County, is seeking an effective and experienced project manager and leader to serve as Engineering Manager for
the Water Resources and Conservation Department.
The Department is charged with providing a clean, safe and reliable water supply; collecting
and effectively treating the City's wastewater; operating an extensive water recycling program and
managing the City's storm water systems, including a state-of-the-art Flood Alert system.
The City's service area covers 14 square miles, with over 400 miles of underground
pipeline systems. The Water Resources Department annually
provides 3.2 billion gallons of drinking water, cleans 2 billion gallons of wastewater
and distributes 670 million gallons of recycled water. The City is in the
middle of an expansion of its recycled water program and significant upgrades to its water
and wastewater facilities.
The Engineering Manager reports to the Director and has responsibilities associated
with the planning, financing, design, environmental review, permitting, bidding,
construction and start-up of City water resource facilities. Key projects include the
development and management of the Department's five-year Capital Improvement
Program, addressing improvements to the City's water, storm water, wastewater and
recycled water systems.
Minimum Requirements: The successful candidate will have excellent project
management skills necessary to effectively oversee complex and extensive CIP projects
from planning through construction. Applicable knowledge in the areas of water resource
system design, maintenance and operation, and the principles and practices of construction
is essential. California registration as a Professional Engineer and the equivalent to a
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or a closely related
field and a professional background of five or more years related experience with
at least two years in a supervisory capacity is required.
